DISCOVERY & EXPLORATION-BASED LEARNING
Exhibits will include a wildlife cinema, interactive photo gallery, science classroom and various discovery-based activity stations that cover a broad range of wildlife or conservation topics. The Pilot Nature Discovery Center will test various educational programs, components and interactive activities that we have designed on a broad range of wildlife and conservation topics. These will be included in our pilot center to test their effectiveness and impact with various audiences.
JUNGLE LAB & ECO CLASSROOM
A world-class wildlife science classroom will provide a learning space for training programs, workshops and Wildlife Club programs for visiting school and universities. High-quality teaching resources, science equipment, and learning tools will make this one of the most advanced science classrooms in the country.
INTERACTIVE ACTIVITY STATIONS
The entire center will be outfitted with numerous interactive activity stations, didactic signage and special exhibits on a broad range of wildlife science and environmental topics. We have already completed the designs for most of these activity stations.
WORLD CLASS FACILITIES
The installations in our center will be designed to international standards, utilizing a mix of modern technology and hands-on materials. Visitors may experience virtual reality environments, engage with touchscreen activities, or handle nature samples and biofacts as they learn about wildlife and conservation in Cambodia.
We are fundraising to open a Pilot Nature Discovery Center, but we have designed a modular and scalable budget. In fact, we have already completed the designs for a very large Nature Discovery Center. If we can raise enough support our project can be easily scaled up.
MODULAR & SCALABLE DESIGN
While our long-term goal is to build and open a large Nature Discovery Center, we have designed a modular and scalable budget that will allow us to start small and grow as needed over the years. This means that we can adapt our designs, programs and operational costs to match available funding, or scale the project's work over the years. We have compartmentalized individual education and media-based programs as additional add-ons that will help avoid mission creep and keep our quality of work high. As we source additional backers we can expand our programs to reach as millions of people a year.
Fauna in Focus aims to kick-start the environmental movement in Cambodia by opening the first Nature Discovery Center. This learning facility will provide high-quality environmental education and public awareness campaigns right in the heart of Siem Reap. The center aims to attract local students and young adults under 30 (who make up roughly 65% of the population) in an effort to empower these future policy makers, leaders and entrepreneurs, and inspire a love of nature. We have already completed the designs for both a small scale Pilot Nature Center as well as a much larger Nature Discovery Center. See the diagram here for an outline of some of the facility features we want to include.
1: RECEPTION, GIFT SHOP, JUNGLE CAFE
2: THE HALL OF LIFE ON EARTH
3: CAMBODIAN BIODIVERSITY & ECOSYSTEMS
4: THE WILDLIFE CINEMA
5: STAFF OFFICES & MEDIA STUDIO
6: WILDLIFE DISCOVERY CLASSROOM
7: CONSERVATION ZONE + TREE PLANTING
8: NATURE TRAIL & OTHER OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
The Nature Discovery Center will operate similar to a social enterprise. As a unique attraction unlike anything else in Southeast Asia, the Pilot Nature Discovery Center will attract foreign visitors. Tourist admissions will support free entry for local students, off-set operational costs and cover free community outreach and media-based awareness campaigns. In particular, our center will focus on the following target groups.
- Tourists (income generation)
- School students
- General Public
- University Students (local & international)
- Forest Rangers
- Government Officials
- Business Ownsers
