Volunteering & Internships

Join The Team

We are a small startup non-profit, with BIG PLANS. As such, we rely on help and support from a team of skilled and passionate volunteers from different places and backgrounds. One thing they have in common is a passion for creating positive change in the world. Volunteers share their skills and expertise, develop their professional portfolio, and contribute in a socially and environmentally responsible way to wildlife conservation around the world.

Volunteering Policies

We never ask our volunteers to pay for the privileged of working with us. We also have a strict child protection policy that prevents volunteers from working directly with children under 18 without direct supervision and observation of teachers or legal guardians. Volunteers assist or management team with development work for the NGO and our ongoing programs either in country or from home. They share their knowledge and skills to help improve the capacities of our project. We only accept volunteers who are able to commit to positions of at least 6 months, and can contribute at least 5 hours per week. Our volunteers are expected to bring real-world skills and their experience to share to insure your time with us has a positive impact on the world. We do not cover international travel or related costs if the position is on-site.

University Internships

We are happy to help arrange internships for students who wish to gain practical, real-world work experience with a forward thinking wildlife conservation organization. Interns are expected to work close to regular working hours, and to follow all our staff protocols and policies, giving you a first-hand workplace experience for in-country positions. From wildlife science to art and design or even computer programming, 3D animation and app development, we can always find a creative way to put your training into practice with Fauna in Focus. Social Media & Communications

Social Media & Communications

Wildlife conservation organizations do not connect well with the general public. Only through widespread public support will conservation have any hope. As such, we are setting out to use the power of social media to influence public opinion on wildlife, nature and conservation. This is something that few organizations do, despite the proven power of social media to influence the fate and direction of our world. At Fauna in Focus, we aim to change that, and use this power to protect the natural world.

Testimonials

Cooper | Graphic Design

“I’ve really enjoyed my time at Fauna in Focus. I’ve had the chance to meet a lot of amazing people, spend time exploring a great city, and be a part of some high-impact work. During a 3 month volunteer program, I lead the graphic design work for a new educational exhibit on elephant conservation and an aquatic ecosystems exhibit. I also worked on new t-shirts and graphics for several education programs. There’s always something to work on, and the NGO was flexible with my time so that I could explore the region.”

Steve | Education

“My partner and I volunteered with Fauna in Focus for 3 months. During this time I worked on several new programs for the Cambodian Wildlife Club and helped develop lesson plans, activities, games and materials for student-led education programs. I also got the opportunity to engage with school groups and local visitors at the center. I was able to share my own experience working with rescued primates and shared my passion for wildlife conservation with our students and visitors.”

Connie | Project Development

“I spent three months volunteering at Fauna in Focus and was mainly responsible for their social media. I also helped out with updating the website, editing project documents, grants and fundraising. This was a really great experience and helped develop my marketing, communications and fundraising skills. I particularly enjoyed working on their social media, an opportunity for me to get a bit creative! Fauna in Focus is a unique organization doing a lot of vital work on conservation. The team is really friendly and welcoming, and the Nature Discovery Center is a lovely place to work.”

“Fauna in Focus gave me my dream job. My background is in both art and anthropology. After conducting research on elephants in Thailand, I traveled to Cambodia for a 4 month volunteering opportunity with Fauna in Focus. This grew into a 9-month part-time job. Working as Exhibition Coordinator, I had the chance to build giant trees from recycled plastic bottles, organize World Wildlife Day 2019, build and paint life-sized birds of Cambodia, and construct elephant and dolphin models for two new educational halls at The Nature Discovery Center!”

Christie | Design

Education, design and wildlife – three passions of mine! I’ve loved the opportunities to design curricula and graphics at FIF that ignite a passion for Cambodia’s wildlife. I first discovered FIF in 2015 when they were fundraising for A Cambodian Nature Film. I found that my vision was in full alignment with FIFs and I was eager to contribute. Strong, attractive and fun visuals are a great tool for helping information resonate with students, and I’ve enjoyed the challenge of a variety of projects including creating fantastic board games! It’s been immensely satisfying seeing the results of positive, excited engagement from guests and students alike.
